Project work

The project work undertaken by the Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association focuses on three themes, which impact on the aquatic environment and the recreational use of the waters, and increase awareness of environmental issues for those travelling in and around our waterways.

  • Marine and freshwater littering
  • Eutrophication
  • Chemicals

All of these themes also involve monitoring work. The Association participates in the national monitoring of Finland’s waterways, both within its operating regions as well as in its planning and development work.

We are involved in implementing report and research projects intended to reduce and prevent the littering of waterways, to find its causes and sources, and to increase knowledge on the topic.

We endeavour to tackle the problems caused by eutrophication by contributing to projects that focus on issues related to the use of dry toilets and septic tanks.

The chemicalisation of the waterways is another threat and challenge for our aquatic ecosystems and the recreational use thereof. We participate in undertakings that focus on the impact of chemicals introduced through human use of the waterways, such as through the use of antifouling paints.

Within research projects, our activities include implementation and information distribution. We coordinate and realise reporting and follow-up work, primarily with the help of external funding.
